At the end of a long, hard, tiring day there is nothing more that you want to do than sit down and put your feet up, with a cup of tea, coffee, a glass of wine, gin and tonic, or whatever happens to be your favourite tipple. That has been the case for years, but a part of it has gone out of fashion in many homes – heaven knows why. “Sit down and put your feet up” is an expression going back many years, yet today, in the 21st century, many people cannot do that for one simple reason: they can sit down, but they have nothing on which to put their feet up!
Not so many years ago, every lounge, drawing room, or whatever you want to call it, had a footstool or footstools for a family to relax and put their feet up, watch TV, play cards, or whatever else they wanted to do in the evening. And not only in the evening but at other times of day too, after working hard. However, over the last 30 years, it seems that many families no longer have a footstool, which is a shame.
